What a memorial park is
A memorial park here is a themed place rather than a physical one: a garden a memorial is placed in, so a pet is remembered somewhere and not simply filed under a date. Choosing one is the closest thing this site has to choosing a plot, and it costs nothing.
People pick a park for different reasons. Some choose the one nearest to where they live, so the memorials they visit belong to the same part of the world as theirs. Some choose by feeling, a quiet wood or an open coast, because it matches where the animal was happiest. Neither is more correct, and a memorial can be moved later if the first choice stops feeling right.
Browsing a park is also the least lonely way to use this site. Every memorial in it was written by somebody who has just been through what you are going through, and reading a few of them is what many people say first made the loss feel less strange.
Questions about parks
- Do I have to choose a park?
- No. A memorial works perfectly well without one, and you can add or change the park at any point from the memorial itself.
- Is a park a real place I can visit?
- No — parks here are virtual. They give a memorial a setting and group it with others, but there is nothing to travel to. Many families pair an online memorial with a real place of their own, such as a spot in the garden or where the ashes were scattered.
- Can I suggest a park that does not exist yet?
- Yes. Signed-in members can suggest one with the button above, and we open new parks regularly. Tell us what the place means and why it fits: suggestions with a reason behind them are the ones that get opened.
- Can more than one pet share a park?
- Yes, and most families do exactly that. Keeping several animals in the same park makes them easy to visit together.
